$1.8B Cotton Field School Advancing Steadily

The $1.8 billion new Cotton Field Secondary School in Region Two will provide a modern learning environment for hundreds of students, as work continues steadily.

The school is slated to be completed in December 2026.

During a recent site visit, Minister of Education Sonia Parag emphasised the importance of delivering improved educational infrastructure to boost student performance and access to quality education.

“This is a massive project… ” It’s a huge investment, and I know it will serve the children of this area well,” the minister said.

Minister Parag noted that the new facility will accommodate approximately 800 students and provide a more conducive learning environment.

The minister added that continuous monitoring will be conducted to ensure the project remains on schedule.

“I will also come back to visit the site… to make sure that works are progressing the way it’s supposed to,” she stated.

The new school forms part of the government’s broader education transformation agenda, which has seen significant investments in school infrastructure nationwide over the past five years.

Minister Parag further added that the developments are aimed at ensuring students across Guyana benefit from modern facilities that support improved academic performance.

Construction of the new Cotton Field Secondary School began following a sod-turning ceremony in February 2025.

The $1.8 billion project is being executed to replace the existing facility with a modern complex featuring upgraded classrooms, laboratories, administrative offices, and other learning amenities.

The new institution is expected to significantly improve access to quality secondary education for students across Region Two, while supporting the government’s continued investment in education infrastructure and national development.
