$13.9M Katu'ur Nursery School Commissioned
June 28, 2025- The Honourable Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, today officially commissioned the Katu'ur Nursery School, valued at $13,992,315, marking another milestone in the Government of Guyana’s commitment to improving education delivery in hinterland communities.
The initiative, which spanned a 13-month implementation period, is designed to enhance access to quality education and strengthen educational infrastructure within the South Central Catchment area of Region Nine. This region includes some of the most remote and geographically challenging communities in the country, where education services have traditionally faced logistical and infrastructural hurdles.
Minister Manickchand, speaking at the commissioning ceremony, emphasized that investments like these are crucial to ensuring equity in education.
“Every child, regardless of where they live, must have access to the same quality of education. This catchment initiative is a direct response to the needs expressed by the people of this region, and we are proud to deliver on our promise,” she stated.
Residents and educators in the South Central area expressed their gratitude for the long-awaited investment, which they believe will help bridge the gap between coastal and hinterland education outcomes.
