Ministry of Education Launches National STEAM Fair 2025 Under the Theme: “Innovative Solutions through STEAM for Sustainable Development in Guyana”
April 23, 2025 — The Ministry of Education is pleased to announce the official launch of the National S.T.E.A.M Fair 2025, now in its 16th biennial edition. Running from April 23rd to 25th at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre from 9AM to 3PM daily, this year’s fair is being hosted under the theme “Innovative Solutions through STEAM for Sustainable Development in Guyana,” a call to action for young minds across the country to apply Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics toward building a more sustainable and forward-thinking nation.
The National STEAM Fair has long served as a platform for student innovation and interdisciplinary exploration. This year’s event continues that tradition, offering an immersive and intellectually engaging experience that includes interactive exhibits, hands-on workshops, panel discussions, and keynote presentations designed to ignite passion and curiosity among students, educators, and visitors alike. Above all, it will spotlight the brilliance of Guyanese students who will present over two hundred cutting-edge projects aimed at solving real-world challenges.
The journey to the national event began with a series of Regional STEAM Fairs held between March 24th and April 2nd, 2025, across all eleven of Guyana’s education districts. These regional events saw hundreds of student teams compete, with the best projects advancing to the national stage. Now, representatives from every region in Guyana will convene in Georgetown to demonstrate how creativity and innovation, when powered by STEAM, can serve as powerful tools for national development.
This year’s fair features participants across multiple academic levels. At the primary level, pupils have developed projects that demonstrate foundational knowledge and creativity in science, mathematics, environmental science, and craft and visual arts. These projects offer insights into how even the youngest learners are thinking critically and solving problems using STEAM concepts.
At the lower secondary level, students were encouraged to focus on interdisciplinary solutions, research, and inventions. Their work spans a wide range of disciplines, including social and behavioural sciences, integrated science, agricultural science, information technology, environmental science, home economics, mathematics, and the arts. These projects are reflective of a growing emphasis on problem-solving, collaboration, and practical application of knowledge.
For upper secondary students, the fair has become an opportunity to demonstrate leadership and vision through projects that prioritize entrepreneurship, sustainability, and positive community impact. Their exhibits will include advanced applications of knowledge in areas such as biology, chemistry, physics, industrial technology, and digital innovation, showcasing the next generation of scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs.
At the tertiary level, participants in the open category will present advanced STEAM research, engineering designs, and technology-driven innovations. These projects not only represent academic achievement but also offer glimpses into the future of Guyanese science and industry.
To ensure that judging across regions was equitable and rigorous, a national training programme was developed and executed by members of the STEAM Fair Committee. Each region hosted training sessions that included judges and education officers, who were also encouraged to serve as mentors to participating schools during the project development phase. This collaborative approach strengthened the overall quality of the submissions and further emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to inclusive and high-quality education.
Originally, the Ministry had identified the Ministry of Education Ground on Carifesta Avenue as the fair’s main venue. However, due to unpredictable weather conditions, the location was changed to the Arthur Chung Conference Centre. The decision followed multiple assessments and meetings with officials from the venue to ensure it met the necessary requirements to host a national event of this scale.
What makes this year’s fair especially unique is the scale and inclusivity of the regional events that preceded it. Each education district hosted at least one fair, creating an energetic and widespread lead-up to the national showcase. In total, over 210 projects were presented across the country, culminating in a vibrant, competitive, and intellectually stimulating gathering in the capital.
Throughout the three-day event, students will not only exhibit their projects but also engage in live presentations. They will share the inspiration behind their ideas, explain their processes, and interact confidently with attendees—demonstrating not just technical knowledge, but also critical thinking, creativity, and communication skills. This is more than just a competition; it is a celebration of the potential of Guyana’s youth to transform society through STEAM.
