Ninety students at The New Diamond-Grove Primary School received prescription eyeglasses after vision screenings were conducted under the first phase of a vision care project launched by the Diamond-Grove Lions Club in collaboration with Optique Vision Care.
Approximately 130 children were screened during the initiative, with 12 referred for further specialised evaluation and one boy recommended for additional clinical follow-up for strabismus, commonly known as crossed eyes.
The initiative began with an eye health presentation by an optometrist from Optique Vision Care during the school's morning assembly, followed by screenings during students' break and lunch periods.
Vision Chairperson Lion Odessa DeBarros urged parents to take a proactive approach to monitoring their children's health and supporting their early development.
The Ministry of Health supported the project by contributing vouchers valued at $17,000 per child.
The second phase is scheduled for Sunday, October 11, and will feature a vision awareness walk under the theme “Eyes on Health, Feet on the Move.”
The walk will conclude with a mini-health fair at the G3 Building car park, featuring an address by the Minister of Health, on-site vision testing and general medical checks, including blood pressure and blood glucose testing.
