Agricultural Science Teachers and Heads of Departments from various secondary schools across Region Five recently participated in a training programme conducted by the National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI) and the Pesticides and Toxic Chemicals Control Board.
Facilitated by the Ministry of Education and Ms. Yonette Crandon, the TVET Officer for Agriculture at the TVET Unit (MOE), who serves as the Officer in Charge for Regions Five and Six, the training was part of a NAREI programme covering school shade house management, budding, grafting, and air-layering.
Participants also received instruction on pest and disease management, as well as the proper use and handling of agricultural chemicals.
The sessions began with a classroom segment at Fort Wellington Secondary School before moving to the Ministry of Agriculture Model Farm at Naarstigheid, West Coast Berbice, for practical demonstrations.
This collaboration ensures our educators are well-equipped with the latest technical skills to lead our school farms.
