The Ministry of Educationโ€™s Distance Education Unit launched the upgraded EDPAL+ application and its new Media Mentorship Programme on Monday, 12 October 2026, expanding free educational audio resources and practical media training nationwide.

โ€‹The revised platform provides free, advert-free access to lessons, courses, audiobooks and stories. To support students in coastal, rural and hinterland communities, the application includes offline download capabilities and optimised performance on weak network connections.

Updates feature a redesigned home screen, simplified search options, a "Continue Learning" shortcut, an integrated feed for EdYou FM broadcasts, and a personalised "For You" section that tracks listening habits to recommend relevant curriculum content.

Speaking on behalf of Minister Sonia Parag, who is currently on travel duties, โ€‹Chief Planning Officer Mischka White-Griffith noted that digital tools are central to modernising learning access. "How far should a child go to access education? My answer is it should be a double click away," White-Griffith said.

"EDPAL+ makes learning available 24/7, 365 days a year. Parents can now trust their children on a device because there is a platform that is safe and directly related to what they are learning at school."

โ€‹Running alongside the platform relaunch, the Media Mentorship Programme provides selected participants with hands-on training from Distance Education Unit professionals.

The curriculum covers photography, videography, pre-production, video editing, audio production and content development. Workshop sessions run from today, Tuesday, 13 October 2026, through Friday, 23 October 2026, at the Distance Education Unit office and studio on Battery Road, Kingston, Georgetown.

โ€‹Distance Education Unit Director Phillip Williams concluded by pointing to the core principle behind the initiative. "We operate on the philosophy that your physical address should not determine your access to educational resources," Williams stated.

"EDPAL+ is a cornerstone of the Ministry of Educationโ€™s digital transformation in Guyana, representing our commitment to making learning more accessible and responsive to the public."
