AutoCAD Lab Commissioned at Abram Zuil Secondary School

Marking a significant milestone in advancing technical and vocational education, the Ministry of Education has commissioned the first-ever AutoCAD Laboratory at Abram Zuil Secondary School in Region Two.

The laboratory is equipped with more than 20 high-functioning laptops and an interactive smart screen. It will allow students to transform traditional technical drawings into advanced 2D and 3D digital models using industry-standard AutoCAD software.

Minister of Education Sonia Parag, speaking at the commissioning ceremony, described the initiative as a historic step in strengthening technical and vocational education in Guyana.

“While we are placing a lot of investment and emphasis in education as a whole and academics as a whole, we also have to pay attention to technical and vocational training,” she stated.

The initiative is expected to significantly enhance students’ exposure to modern engineering, architecture, and technical design practices. It will also equip them with practical digital skills needed for Guyana’s rapidly expanding construction and infrastructure sectors.

Minister Parag also encouraged students to embrace the new technology, noting that the facility brings classrooms closer to international standards. Through the new lab software, the students can digitally conceptualise and design structures.

Deputy Chief Education Officer with responsibility for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Dr Ritesh Tularam, said the ministry is not only commissioning a laboratory, but also “innovation, creativity, and new possibilities” for students.

The commissioning of the laboratory also signals the beginning of a broader national rollout of AutoCAD facilities in secondary schools across Guyana.

Similar laboratories are expected to be commissioned in the coming months at North Ruimveldt Secondary School, Hope Secondary School, Bygeval Secondary School, Zeeburg Secondary School, and New Amsterdam Secondary School as the Ministry of Education continues to expand technical and vocational training opportunities nationwide.
