The march around the streets of Bartica culminated at the Community Centre Ground for a grand rally and talent show which saw participation from teachers and students from several schools in and around Bartica as well as education and regional officials.

On parade, hundreds of students chanted the theme for 2019 Education Month: “Education – The Key to National Development”, along with their slogan: “Go to School and don’t be a Fool”.

Delivering the feature address, Regional Chairman, Mr. Gordon Bradford, expressed the government’s commitment to the delivery of quality education to the nation. “The national and regional budgets, both, reflect significant allocations towards education, because your government recognizes the importance of education in the development of the nation, and is sparing no effort to equip you with the right skills to take on the imminent challenges of nation-building”, he said.

Mr. Bradford also announced the plans for the construction of an early childhood school and a special needs school at Bartica, along with the construction of several primary schools in the Upper Mazaruni and Cuyuni, some of which have already started.
