Chief Education Officer, Dr Marcel Hutson conducted a professional development session with the recently appointed administrators of Region Three today.
Administrators included Headteachers, Deputy Headteachers, Senior Masters/ Mistresses and Heads of Departments. Dr Hutson focused on the topic "The Leader versus the Achiever".
He pointed out that in the school system there is a need for a combination of the two perspectives for effectiveness. According to Dr Hutson, for schools to do well objectives or targets must be set and strategies must be developed for achieving them.
He noted, however, the significance of teamwork, empowerment and the heart of a servant in the attainment of such objectives or targets. He said that these are the embodiment of leadership. Dr Hutson asserted that school leaders must never be afraid to release the potential of team members for the betterment of students. He said the day leaders become afraid of the ability of those they lead they are no longer relevant to the transformation process.
The Chief Education Officer urged participants to be agents of change with a view of ensuring all students fulfil their potential and contribute meaningfully to Guyana's development.
