Christ Church Secondary Graduates urged to challenge status quo

(July 7, 2022) – Some 88 students of Christ Church Secondary School on Thursday afternoon were able to walk the stage after two years of being unable to host a graduation ceremony.

The ceremony, which was hosted at the National Cultural Center saw 32 students from the graduating class of 2020 and 53 from the class of 2021 receiving their certificates and special prizes for completing their secondary education.

Delivering the feature address, Education Specialist Dr Olato Sam highlighted that the graduates are critical to national development. He noted that the quality of education they received at Christ Church Secondary has equipped them with a foundation to take advantage of future opportunities.
“If you could envision Guyana a decade from now, given our current developmental trajectory, you should be highly motivated to play your part in that progressive, transformative agenda. Your generation will be charged with innovating and transforming our landscape to enable the optimum realization of our potential as a nation. You are among the most dynamic, creative and driven individuals in our society and we are committed to creating the enabling environment within which you can thrive.”

Meanwhile, Chief Education Officer, Dr Marcel Hutson charged the graduates to challenge the status quo and to make meaningful contributions to society. He reminded them that where they come from does not determine their future and further challenged them to grasp every opportunity presented.

Also present at the graduation ceremony was Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Public Affairs, Hon. Warren Kwame McCoy.
Among the awards presented, Varun Singh and Carrian Perriera were awarded Best Graduating Student for 2020 and 2021 respectively.
