Digital Education Initiative Expands in Region Six, 3000 Registered

March 12, 2025 - As part of the ongoing sensitization campaign to promote the Guyana Digital School, Minister of Education, the Honourable Priya Manickchand, visited the JC Chandisingh Secondary School in Region Six, East Berbice-Corentyne, today.

This marks yet another pivotal stop in the government’s commitment to advancing digital education and providing equal access to quality learning resources for all students across the country.

Minister Manickchand’s visit to the JC Chandisingh Secondary School is part of a series of outreach efforts aimed at raising awareness and encouraging participation in the Guyana Digital School program.

This initiative, which empowers students and teachers by providing access to digital tools and learning platforms, continues to gain momentum as the Ministry of Education seeks to bridge the gap in educational access and ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed in a rapidly evolving digital world. The initiative was first announced by President Dr Irfaan Ali in May, 2024.

The visit to Region Six follows Minister Manickchand’s recent stops at Vergenoegen Secondary in Region 3, Essequibo Islands-West Demerara on Tuesday and Abram Zuil Secondary in Region 2, Pomeroon-Supenaam on Monday.

These visits are part of a broader strategy to reach students from all corners of the country and inform them about the exciting educational opportunities available through the Guyana Digital School platform.

During her visit, Minister Manickchand engaged with students and staff, demonstrating the many benefits of the digital education tools that are now at their fingertips.

The Guyana Digital School initiative offers a wide range of online courses, interactive resources, and personalized learning opportunities that enhance the traditional classroom experience and foster a more dynamic approach to learning.

Since the campaign’s launch, the number of registrants has grown rapidly, with the total now reaching 3,000 students. The continued success of the initiative reflects the growing enthusiasm among students and educators for embracing technology as a critical tool for enhancing the education system.

Minister Manickchand expressed her satisfaction with the program’s progress and reaffirmed the government’s dedication to ensuring that digital education remains accessible to all. She highlighted the importance of fostering digital literacy and skills that will equip students with the knowledge and competencies needed to thrive in the 21st century.

The Ministry of Education will continue its efforts to expand the reach of the Guyana Digital School. The Ministry is confident that this initiative will continue to make a positive impact on students, teachers, and the broader educational community.
