Education Ministry hosts children’s costume and road parade awards

Ministry of Education Hosts Awards Ceremony for Children’s Costume and Road Parade

(May 10, 2024) – The Ministry of Education’s Allied Arts Unit on Friday hosted the annual Children’s Costume and Road Parade Awards Ceremony in the auditorium of the National Centre for Educational Resource Development.

The Children’s Costume and Road Parade, which was hosted in February, is brings together children from all corners of Guyana to showcase their artistic talents and celebrate our diverse cultural heritage. This year’s awards ceremony honored the dedication, creativity, and teamwork of participants who poured their hearts and souls into crafting imaginative costumes and bringing joy to communities through the parade.

While delivering brief remarks, Head of EdYou FM, Mr. Phillip Williams provided an overview of the competition.

He noted that the Children’s Mashramani Competitions began in January of this year and were coordinated by the Regional Education Departments across the country. The winners of these competitions were invited to participate in the National Children’s Mashramani Competitions in Georgetown on February 16.

The winners of the Calypso, Dramatic Poetry, Dance, Masquerade and Hip-Hop Competitions have received their prizes for those competitions.

The Children’s Costume and Road Parade which was hosted on February 17, attracted 21 Bands from 10 Regional Education Departments, all-told there was a total of 1,112 revelers.

The Children’s Costume and Road Parade was scored according to five categories: Primary Schools, Secondary Schools, Individual Pieces, Other Children’s Organisations and Regional Bands. The participating bands were scored on the Tarmac of the National Park. The Honourable Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand led the Parade from the start to the end.
