The Ministry of Education is currently offering an after-school program aimed at enhancing students' understanding of the syllabus and assisting with the preparation of school-based assessments (SBAs)
This comprehensive initiative is supported by around 32 tutors who cover a wide range of subjects. These subjects include Office Administration, Principles of Business, Integrated Science, Building Technology, Agricultural Science, Spanish, Principles of Accounts, Economics, Social Studies, Mathematics, Mechanical Drawing, Building Drawing, Food and Nutrition (FN&H), Theatre Arts, Additional Mathematics, Visual Arts, French, Physics, Electronic Document Preparation and Management (EDPM), English Language, Physical Education, Human and Social Biology, English Literature, Information Technology, Portuguese, Geography, Caribbean History, Textile, Clothing and Fashion, Religious Education, Electrical Technology, Family Resource Management (FRM), Chemistry, and Biology.
The program's primary focus is on helping students understand the syllabus requirements, expectations for the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations, and the necessary components for completing their SBAs.
Classes commenced on June 3rd and are scheduled to continue for a month and a half. This initiative has been well-received by students, many of whom have expressed their relief and gratitude. They have found the program especially beneficial, as it has provided much-needed support and guidance during a period where many felt uncertain and unprepared.
A crucial element of this program is a shared document provided by the secondary department. This document outlines various modules and components required for the SBA, enabling students to track their progress and complete outstanding tasks. For those who were behind in their work, this program offers an invaluable opportunity to catch up and stay on track with their peers.
To facilitate the program, Microsoft Teams is being utilized as the primary platform. This allows teachers and students to log in and participate in live sessions guided by experienced tutors. Additionally, all sessions are recorded and uploaded to YouTube. This ensures that even if students or teachers miss a live session, they can still access the material at their convenience without the fear of falling behind.
Looking ahead, after the current phase focusing on SBA modules concludes around July, the program coordinators are optimistic about its future. They hope to expand the program's scope, potentially incorporating more diverse content and resources to further support student learning and success.
The Ministry of Education's after school program represents a significant step towards enhancing educational outcomes and providing students with the tools they need to succeed academically.
