‘Give Another Chance Foundation’ reaches out to students

Give Another Chance Foundation of 43 ‘A’ Friendship, East Bank Demerara,

has assisted a number of students from various schools who have excelled in the National Grade Six Assessment.

At a ceremony held on Saturday at Island Style Café, Brickdam, the organisation donated a quantity of backpacks, tablets and cash incentives to 75 students from JE Burnham Primary, Sophia Primary, St. Gabriel’s, Paradise Primary, Graham’s Hall Primary, Ketley Primary, Hopetown Primary, West Ruimveldt Primary, St. Pius, St. Stephen’s Primary and FE Pollard Primary.

The entity also rewarded students from University of Guyana, St. Rose’s High, Brickdam Secondary, Houston Secondary, Starters Nursery, Christ Church and Golden Grove Secondary.

Founder of the charitable organisation, Miranda Thakur-Deen, said they started this initiative seven years ago in Wakenaam, and have decided to reach out to schools from across the country, adding that this is their second year in Georgetown.

She stated they would also reach out to children during the Christmas season and offer scholarships to students from the interior.

“We want to help these students to continue to excel in their education, so we thought it best to support them as they prepare for another school term,” she posited.

She expressed gratitude to V Net Communications of Delph Street, Campbellville, Atlantic Mining, Atlantic Marine, Famar Inc of Wakenaam, Cerulean Inc, Wendy Seepersaud of Wireless and Giftshop, Valarie and Indal of Island Style Café, Glo-See and Sterling Products Ltd.

Chief Executive Officer of V Net Communications Safraz Sheriffudeen who donated the tablets said he was privileged to be part of the venture and lauded Mrs. Thakur-Deen, who hails from Wakenaam, as well as other members of the organisation.

“It’s one way of giving back to the society; some students may not be able to afford certain luxuries, so this is a wonderful initiative by the foundation and children can now go one step further in their education. I hope that this serves as a motivation to them and other students since they are our future,” he said.

Mayor of Georgetown Patricia Chase-Green was also in attendance.
