Emmanuel Wilson, a 22-year-old Government Technical Institute (GTI) student, is encouraging people to pursue non-conventional careers.
He is studying Mechanical Electrical Engineering at GTI. Wilson explained that many people view jobs in non-conventional fields as inferior. However, with Guyana’s growing economy, he pointed out that companies now seek to hire more people in these fields, and individuals can even become entrepreneurs.

During an interview with EdYou FM’s Nygil Drepaul, Wilson said, “If everyone is a doctor or a lawyer, who will fix our cars and build our houses?” While the courses at GTI can be challenging, Wilson encourages students to persevere and remain focused. He emphasized that there is no age limit for applying to GTI. Wilson plans to continue learning and seek advice from those in the field.
