‘Just Youth-It’ festival garners huge response

The Come Alive Network Incorporated – CANI’s fifth annual ‘Just Youth It’ festival held today in the Promenade Gardens garnered a huge response.

The event was held to mark United Nations’ International Youth Day which will be observed on August 12 under the theme: ‘Safe Spaces for Youth’. The festival was the culmination of a day of events that saw youths engaged in Business, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Visual Arts, Music and Social Development projects/sessions at different venues across Georgetown.

The event saw youth leaders, business, government agencies, the diplomatic corps and civil society hosting several informational booths on business and employment opportunities, the arts, health services, voluntary opportunities, and more. CANI’s Coordinator, Ryan Hoppie said that this year’s event is the first to be held outdoors which allowed for more participants to join and enjoy the opportunities offered.

“We will continue to push such initiatives that allow our young people to garner the knowledge and skills they need to assist in the development of their community and country, as a whole,” Hoppie said while acknowledging the many sponsors such as GT&T and Teleperformance who came on board to make the youth festival a reality. British High Commissioner, H.E. Greg Quinn noted that the event is a great initiative which helps young people to develop themselves and become the driving force in the country’s decision-making.

“In other countries, young people are heavily involved in the decision-making process of their respective countries and with this, I hope it is possible for the young people in Guyana,” Quinn noted. CANI is a non-governmental organisation established to actively support youth development through the use of applied global perspectives to effectively contribute to the genuine and progressive community and global development. Over the years, the organisation has facilitated a number of activities such as community outreaches, training programmes among others.
