March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month!
As we observe this important month, the Ministry of Education Guyana emphasizes the theme: We’re Here: Then, Now, Always.
Developmental disabilities encompass a variety of conditions that affect physical, learning, language, and behavior. Common types include:
Autism Spectrum Disorder
Intellectual Disabilities
Cerebral Palsy
Down Syndrome
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Why Early Intervention Matters:
Early intervention is crucial in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. It enhances their potential, promotes essential skills, and facilitates better outcomes in education, health, and overall well-being. Ministry of Education has established SEND spaces at the nursery level that supports and promotes the development of learners with developmental disabilities.
Let us come together this March to raise awareness, promote understanding, and ensure that everyone has access to the resources they need. Together, we can make a difference!
