Today, the Honourable Minister of Education Priya Manickchand presented the Council of the University Prize and the University of Guyana Students’ Society (UGSS) Award to 2019/2020 University of Guyana graduates Farnaz Baksh and Maximiano De Freitas respectively.

The presentation was done in the Minister’s Brickdam office. Ms. Baksh is a leader in robotics and works with special needs and disadvantaged children in STEM and was on Guyana’s first international robotics team. Mr. De Freitas is a former Executive Member of both the UGSS and the Economics Society.

The Council of the University Prize is awarded to the graduating student who has attained at least a ‘Pass with Credit’ and has made the greatest contribution in other areas of University activities.

The UGSS Award is given to the graduating student (other than the winner of the Council’s prize) who has attained at least a ‘Pass with Credit’ and has made an outstanding contribution in other areas of University activities.

Ms. Baksh graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Computer Science) Degree while Mr. De Freitas graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics.

Minister Manickchand congratulated both graduates on their exceptional performance and for being awarded the two prestigious awards. She wished them well in their future endeavours.
