Minister Parag Delivers Charge at Guyana School of Agriculture’s 60th Graduation Ceremony

(October 22, 2025) - Hon. Sonia Parag, Minister of Education, this afternoon delivered the charge to graduates at the Guyana School of Agriculture - GSA 60th Graduation Ceremony, held at the National Cultural Centre.

Minister Parag commended the graduates on their perseverance and encouraged them to apply their training with integrity and purpose. She underscored the continued relevance of agriculture to Guyana’s national development, reminding the Class of 2025 that the country’s strength has long been rooted in the sector.

“Agriculture has carried this country long before the discovery of oil,” Minister Parag said. “Your training must now serve the nation; whether in animal health, forestry, or agro-processing. It is through your work that Guyana will continue to grow as a food-secure and self-sufficient country.”

She also urged graduates to use their education as a foundation for lifelong learning and to embrace new opportunities being developed through government initiatives, including future degree programmes in veterinary medicine.

“Your achievement is a milestone,” she added. “Use it to propel yourselves forward, and ensure that whatever you do reflects excellence and productivity.”

Minister Parag accompanied Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha, who delivered the keynote address, and Minister within the Ministry of Agriculture, Vickash Ramkissoon.

In his remarks, Minister Mustapha congratulated the 84 graduates and highlighted that they are entering the field at a time of major transformation within the agricultural sector. He said the government continues to invest in smart agriculture, agro-processing, and research and development to modernize the industry and enhance food security.

“You are graduating at a time of transformation,” Minister Mustapha said. “Agriculture is no longer just about food, it is about national security, economic growth, and sustainability. The future of this sector depends on your ability to innovate and lead.”

The ceremony marked six decades of service by the Guyana School of Agriculture, which has trained nearly 5,400 graduates who continue to serve in Guyana and across the wider Caribbean.
