Hon. Sonia Parag, Minister of Education, today delivered the closing remarks at the National Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships 2026, commending the athletes for their hard work, discipline, and dedication throughout the three-day competition.

During her address, Minister Parag praised the high standard of performance displayed by the students and underscored how proud she is of them for their hard work and dedication.

The evening also saw Minister Parag and Hon. Steven Jacobs, Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, engaging with the athletes in the stands, joining in the spirited atmosphere as students danced and cheered to the rhythm of the drums.

At the close of the championships, President’s College emerged victorious for the second consecutive year with 275 points. Mackenzie High School secured second place with 230 points, while Christianburg Wismar Secondary finished third with 214 points.

The National Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships 2026 was held from March 11 to 13 and showcased the talent, determination, and competitive spirit of Guyana’s young athletes, several of whom who will be representing Guyana at the Concacaf Games later this year.
