Minister Parag, this morning, visited Mrs. Yvonne Sears to extend condolences on the passing of her beloved daughter, Ms. Kevaun Sears. The Minister offered sympathies on behalf of the Government of Guyana and the Ministry of Education, sharing how profoundly saddened the education sector and the country are by this loss.
The Minister was accompanied by Mrs. Tiffany Harvey, Deputy Chief Education Officer (Administration), and Mr. Marti DeSouza, Deputy Chief Education Officer (AHED).
Ms. Kevaun Sears served with distinction as the Vice-Principal of the Cyril Potter College of Education, and her contribution to teacher education and national development will not be forgotten. For Minister Parag, the loss is also a personal one. Ms. Sears was her Mathematics teacher at President’s College, and she is remembered as an educator who, even in her early years, commanded respect with quiet confidence. She was warm, gracious and always carried herself with a gentle smile that made learning feel welcoming.
Mrs. Sears spoke lovingly of her daughter as her princess, describing her as ambitious, driven and committed to excellence in all that she did. It was evident that Ms. Sears pursued every stage of her life and career with purpose and determination, achieving much and always striving to do more.
The Ministry of Education extends its heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Sears, Ms. Sears’ brother, her family members, friends, colleagues, students, church family and all who are mourning this tremendous loss. May they find comfort in the legacy of love, service and excellence that Ms. Kevaun Sears leaves behind.
May her soul rest in eternal peace.
