Minister Parag, in her first official engagement as Minister of Education, today met with the 10 Regional Education Officers, the Deputy Chief Education Officers, the Chief Education Officer, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry.
The session provided a frank and open exchange on the realities in classrooms and communities, with officers highlighting key challenges that continue to affect the quality of education delivered to students. Minister Parag stressed that infrastructural development must also be matched by improvements in teaching and learning and that transformation will only be meaningful when every child benefits from higher standards across the country.
Committed to urgent planning and responsive action, Minister Parag assured the officers that the issues raised will not remain on paper but will be tackled with clear strategies and measurable results. She reiterated her determination to remain an on-the-ground leader by visiting schools, listening to teachers, engaging parents, coordinating with various agencies and stakeholders, and ensuring that the Ministry’s work directly translates into stronger outcomes for students.
Minister Parag also emphasised that His Excellency President Dr. Irfaan Ali’s vision for education is not only a priority service but a cornerstone of national progress. In line with the wider transformation taking place across Guyana, she pledged to ensure that the education system is strengthened to equip the next generation with the tools, values, and skills needed to thrive.
The Regional Education Officers expressed appreciation to Minister Parag for her commitment and assurance, and pledged their full support as the Ministry works to strengthen the delivery of education.
