Hon. Sonia Parag, Minister of Education welcomed His Excellency Mr. Joseph Fisher, MBE, British High Commissioner to Guyana, for a courtesy call at the Ministry of Education last Wednesday.
The meeting provided an opportunity for engaging discussions on areas of mutual interest within the education sector, with both parties exploring opportunities to strengthen existing partnerships and identify new avenues for collaboration between Guyana and the United Kingdom. Minister Parag highlighted several ongoing initiatives and successful partnerships that continue to advance education in Guyana, while both leaders reflected on their shared passion for ensuring that every child has access to quality, inclusive and supportive learning environments.
Among the issues discussed was the importance of fostering safe and respectful schools, including continued efforts to address bullying through awareness, collaboration and strong stakeholder engagement. The exchange reaffirmed a shared belief in the transformative power of education and the value of working together to support the holistic development and well-being of every learner. In fact, the High Commissioner welcomed the Minister's invitation to join as a partner onboard the Ministry's antibullying programme.
Minister Parag and High Commissioner Fisher expressed their commitment to maintaining close engagement and look forward to continued collaboration in advancing shared educational priorities.
