Hon. Sonia Parag, Minister of Education, who is also Geographical Member of Parliament for Region Five, visited the Wahab family at Plantation Hope, West Coast Berbice, to offer comfort and critical support following a devastating fire on Thursday morning.
The blaze completely destroyed the family's two-storey home, leaving five individuals, including a two-year-old toddler, homeless, and reducing years of their hard work to ashes.
During the visit, Minister Parag met with the family members, including Bib Wahab and homeowner Jasode Wahab, to listen to their immediate needs and assure them of the government's solidarity during this difficult trial.
Also present to pledge the regional administration's assistance were Regional Executive Officer Mary Samaroo and Regional Vice Chairman Kleon Lindey.
Additionally, local community activists are already on the ground mobilising resources and planning a fundraiser to help the family rebuild.
The Ministry of Education extends its heartfelt sympathies to the Wahab family and commends the Plantation Hope community for standing together in support of their neighbours.
