Ministry of Education Hosts Symposium to Mark Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2026

Today, the Ministry of Education, through the Distance Education Unit (DEU), held a symposium to commemorate UNESCO’s Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2026, under the theme “We All Play a Part – Media and Information Literacy for the People.”

Through presentations and interactive activities, students explored how to navigate the digital world, critically evaluate information, and use media and emerging technologies responsibly.

In his opening remarks, Chief Education Officer, Mr. Saddam Hussain, emphasised that artificial intelligence is already being used in schools, making it essential for students to learn how to use it effectively and responsibly in their academic work.

The symposium featured presentations by Dr. Suelle Findlay-Williams, Director of Press and Publicity, Office of the President, on “Research in the Age of AI”; Mr. Phill Mingo, Head of MISU, on “Digital Innovation in MOE”; and Mr. Phillip Williams, Head of DEU, on “Media Communication Tools in DEU.”

As technology continues to shape how we learn, communicate, and access information, equipping young people with these skills is essential to preparing them for an increasingly digital future.
