Commendations are in order for the staff and students of the E.R Burrows School of Art from Hon. Nicolette Henry for their abilities to incorporate Guyana’s thrust as an emerging Green state through the costumes created for the Ministry of Education Department of Culture, Youth and Sport.

On Tuesday, Minister Henry as well as media operatives were treated to a firsthand showcase of what can be expected when revelers from the Ministry take to the Mashramani Parade route on February 23.

“By any standard these costumes are phenomenal creations that ideally represent the idea of celebration of Liberty, Dignity and Greater unity but more so the overarching theme that promotes Guyana as an emerging Green State,” Minister Henry said.

All told, the multi-colored band that would feature 300 strong full costume revelers speaks directly to the idea of promoting Guyana as an emerging Green state in the Caribbean through preservation and the use of nature.

Construction of the costumes and floats for the Ministry of Education Department of Culture Youth and Sport started just over two weeks ago with the aim to continue building on what has been done for years for the Culture Department.

In addition to the revelers on Mashramany Day the Ministry will also be presenting a King Costume that depicts the use of solar and renewable energy while the Queen Costume will illustrate the beauty of the rainforest with its untold flora and fauna. Queen among the lot is the almost extinct blue, morphological giant butterfly.

There is also an individual female costume that will form part of the Ministry’s most band of revelers and she will be a most majestic depiction of the Harpy Eagle with gigantic wings adorned in Gold, Black and White to Grey colors while the individual male costume will illustrate the idea of Guyana being a land of many waters.
