This evening, Hon. Sonia Parag, Minister of Education, joined His Excellency, President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali, and several members of Cabinet at the official opening ceremony of Guyana Festival 2026 — a vibrant celebration of the nation’s culture, unity, creativity and progress — in commemoration of Guyana’s 60th Independence Anniversary.
In his feature address, President Ali spoke passionately about togetherness, national pride and the vast opportunities being created for Guyanese under the current administration. He highlighted the importance of unity in building a stronger and more prosperous Guyana, while underscoring the Government’s continued investments in tourism, education, infrastructure, youth development, business expansion and community empowerment.
Also present at the ceremony were Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips; Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Susan Rodrigues; and several other Government officials and stakeholders.
Guyana Festival 2026 is expected to bring together citizens and visitors alike through a dynamic showcase of Guyanese heritage, entertainment, cuisine, fashion, music and innovation, while promoting the country as a growing cultural and tourism destination.
