PRESS RELEASE:Carnegie School Expands Training into Communities
(June 8, 2026) – On Monday, 8 June 2026, the Carnegie School of Home Economics signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with the Fellowship Practical Instruction Centre and the Beterverwagting Practical Instruction Centre to expand access to technical and vocational training.
These agreements will bring quality skills training closer to communities and increase opportunities for learners to acquire marketable competencies.
Under the partnership, the Beterverwagting Practical Instruction Centre will offer Commercial Food Preparation Level One and Garment Making Level One, while the Fellowship Practical Instruction Centre will also offer Commercial Food Preparation Level One.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Deputy Chief Education Officer with responsibility for Technical and Vocational Education and Training, Dr. Ritesh Tularam, underscored the importance of the initiative.
“As our country continues to develop, it is important that we create opportunities for people in every community to gain the skills they need to contribute meaningfully to national development and improve their own livelihoods. These partnerships ensure that access to quality training is no longer limited by geography.”
This initiative is only the beginning, with plans already underway to extend similar partnerships and programme offerings to other Practical Instruction Centres nationwide.
As Guyana continues to experience unprecedented growth and development across multiple sectors, the need for a skilled and empowered workforce has never been greater. In keeping with this, the Ministry of Education is committed to ensuring that Guyanese are equipped with the skills to seize emerging opportunities.
For decades, the Carnegie School of Home Economics has played a vital role in preparing individuals with practical and occupational skills. Through these strategic collaborations, the institution continues to broaden its reach and contribute meaningfully to Guyana’s workforce development and national advancement.
