Honourable Minister Priya Devi Manickchand concludes her tenure at the Ministry of Education, having served with distinction from 2011–2015 and again from 2020–2025.
Throughout her stewardship, she championed transformative initiatives that continue to shape Guyana’s education landscape.
These include advancing Universal Access to Secondary Education, training teachers wherever they are resulting in the country moving from 63% trained teachers to 98% of our teachers trained or in training, reinstating and expanding the “Because We Care” Cash Grant, strengthening the National School Feeding Programme and the National Literacy Programme, as well as spearheading the establishment of EdYOU FM and expanding and further development of the Guyana Learning Channel. Her tenure also marked significant growth in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and expanded opportunities for learners nationwide.
As she transitions to serve in a new ministerial capacity, we extend sincere gratitude for her visionary leadership, unwavering dedication, and enduring contributions to the education sector.
The progress she has championed will undoubtedly continue to inspire and guide Guyana’s national development in the years ahead.
