The Ministry of Education’s TVET Unit, in collaboration with Region 3, successfully hosted a Market Day event showcasing agricultural products from several schools, including Leonora Secondary, Zeeburg Secondary, Uitvlugt Secondary, Vergenoegen Secondary, Stewartville Secondary, Parika Salem Secondary, De William Secondary, Patentia Secondary, and Westminster Secondary.
The schools presented a diverse array of organic vegetables, such as squash, pumpkin, bora, callaloo, peppers, bananas, coconuts, okra, and various types of thyme, all cultivated in their schoolyards. In addition to fresh produce, the event featured agro-processed items, including achars, pepper sauce, chutneys, fruit juices, green seasonings, and pickles. Students also offered poultry products, including whole chickens and various meat cuts, such as liver.
The Market Day provided students with a platform to demonstrate their Caribbean Vocational Qualification skills in Crop Production, showcase their agricultural expertise, and highlight their entrepreneurial initiatives. The event also fostered community engagement and promoted the cultivation and consumption of local organic produce as part of a healthy lifestyle.
