Region Four Primary School Teachers Participate in Singing Workshop
(November 18, 2024) – Last Friday, the Ministry of Education’s Allied Arts Unit wrapped up a transformative music workshop, "Content and Methodology: The Essentials of Good Singing Pt. 1," for primary school teachers in Region Four.
This two-day event, held at the National Centre for Educational Resource Development (NCERD), aimed to equip educators with practical tools and techniques to foster a love of singing and enhance students' musical talents.
Delivering opening remarks, Mr. Joel Gonsalves, Education Officer with responsibility for Music emphasized the transformative power of music in education, noting its ability to inspire, uplift, and connect. Mr. Gonsalves highlighted the workshop’s objectives, stressing the role of music in a blended curriculum and encouraging active participation from teachers. He commended their dedication to nurturing students' growth and fostering a deep appreciation for music.
Meanwhile, Nicholas Fraser, Head of the Unit of Allied Arts, linked the workshop to the Ministry of Education's Five Priority Schools Programme. He underscored how music contributes to a well-rounded education by improving cognitive skills, enhancing emotional well-being, and fostering social connections. Mr. Fraser called for continued support for music programs, highlighting their vital role in student development.
The workshop concluded with a special presentation of four original songs composed by teachers within the system, showcasing the creativity and commitment of educators in strengthening music education. The Ministry of Education remains committed to integrating music into schools, recognizing its power to inspire and enrich the lives of students across the nation.
