The Special Education Needs (SEN) Unit of the Department of Education Region Five, hosted a Parents' Empowerment Session on Wednesday, April 14th, 2021 for the parents of pupils attached to the No. 8 Primary School's SEN class.

This activity took place at the No. 8 Primary School with the aim of encouraging and supporting parents with the necessary knowledge and skills that will enable them to better support their children in this pandemic period and beyond.

The Education Officer responsible for SEN in Region Five, Ms. Akeshia Benjamin engaged parents in an interactive session in the areas of Parental Support for Children with SEN, Parental Involvement in the SEN Home-schooling Programme and Collaboration and Advocacy among other areas.

Parents also received encouragement and support from Mr. Naitram Lalaram - Guidance & Counselling Officer, Ms. Adel White - Regional Literacy Co-ordinator and Ms. Frantania Alfred - Headteacher of No. 8 Primary School.

The Ministry of Education is observing Autism Awareness during the month of April.
