Region Five Stands Together in Grief Following MV Barima Tragedy

Tonight was a heavy one.

All across Guyana, we gathered to grieve as one. Our hearts hurt for the souls we've lost, but our support and prayers remain with those who were saved and are with us today.

This evening, the people of Region Five showed up in full strength—a powerful, quiet reminder that even in our darkest hours, no one in our community has to walk through grief alone.

The MV Barima tragedy directly affected several families across the Mahaica-Berbice region, including the Matabheeks, who lost four of its members—Rachel Wells and her three children, Nathan, Nathalia and Ezekiel Matabheek.
