Region Three Hosts First-Ever Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Training Workshop
September 24, 2024 – The Regional Education Department, Region Three, is currently hosting a groundbreaking four-day Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) training workshop, marking the first of its kind in the region. This innovative training program, a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Education’s SEND Unit and the Guyana Council for Disabilities, is designed to enhance the capabilities of educators and improve learning outcomes for SEND students.
Six SEND teachers, along with several pupils, are actively participating in the workshop, where they are examining key areas in Special Education Needs and Disabilities, including visual impairments, physical disabilities, and learning disabilities. The training covers critical aspects such as reading and writing Braille, managing behavioural challenges, and supporting students with physical disabilities. Teachers are receiving specialized instruction to better understand the unique needs of SEND students and how to effectively identify and support these learners in their classrooms.
This first-of-its-kind initiative in Region Three represents a significant step forward in advancing inclusive education in Guyana.
