Region Three schools get free, clean, and sustainable drinking water for 9,000+ students and teachers
The Ministry of Education, led by the Hon. Sonia Parag, Minister of Education, has partnered with Recover Guyana and the Greater Guyana Initiative (GGI) to commission 15 new water purification systems across Region Three secondary schools under Project FLOW.
This vital initiative provides safe, clean drinking water to over 9,000 students and teachers, aligning with the Ministry's vision to strengthen school infrastructure, ensuring that they benefit from cleaner, safer learning environments.
Beyond the immediate health benefits, the project is expected to bring substantial financial relief to hundreds of households, with $87 million projected to be saved within the region over three years.
The project also aims to eliminate the use of some 25 million plastic bottles nationally.
Minister Parag noted that this partnership is not only about development, but also about innovation and sustainability to improve the quality of education.
Looking ahead, the Ministry remains committed to expanding this initiative nationwide, targeting a total of 155 educational institutions by 2029 to ensure long-term national development impact.
