SEND Screening Packet Training
The Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Unit of NCERD recently conducted training sessions for Regional Officers across Regions 4, 5, 6 and Georgetown, focusing on the Ministry of Education’s Screening Packet.
These sessions centred on the effective use of the standardized tool, which is designed to identify students at risk, document observations for learners experiencing challenges, and support timely intervention for students with SEND.
Officers were encouraged to remain vigilant during school visits and to promptly refer identified learners to their respective Regional SEN Officers. These officers will then coordinate comprehensive assessments through the Regional SEND Centre at Turkeyen.
Participants included Education Officers (Nursery, Primary and Secondary), School Welfare Officers, and Guidance and Counselling Officers.
The training was led by National SEN Officer, Ms. Savvie Hopkinson, with support from the Assistant Chief Education Officer (SEND) and Regional SEN Officers across the respective regions.
