Smooth roll out of ‘Because We Care’ cash grant in Region Five

Parents across several schools in Region Five on Monday welcomed the smooth distribution of the government’s $85,000 Because We Care Cash Grant, describing the initiative as a significant boost for their children’s education.

The Department of Public Information (DPI) visited the distribution exercise at De Hoop Nursery, De Hoop Primary, Zealand Primary, Novar Primary and Novar Secondary Schools in Region Five, where parents were seen uplifting the grant quickly and efficiently.

The financial package includes a $5,000 uniform voucher and another $20,000 to assist with transportation.

She said the financial support will help her purchase school supplies, uniforms and other essential items for her children.

She said the grant will also benefit many other parents by easing the financial burden associated with preparing children for school, adding that the government is making a worthwhile investment in education.

Ashnmi Singh also welcomed the initiative.

According to Singh, the grant will assist in providing everything her children need for the new school term.

She commended the government for its continued investment in children and education.

Meanwhile, Minister of Education Sonia Parag visited several schools in the region to monitor the distribution process and expressed satisfaction with how efficiently the exercise was progressing.

“I am very pleased with how smoothly the distribution is going. Parents are coming in, collecting their envelopes within a matter of seconds and leaving. This reflects the months of preparation by the Ministry of Education and the regional education teams to ensure the process is efficient,” Minister Parag said.

She noted that Novar Primary, one of the largest primary schools in Region Five with approximately 317 students, maintained a steady flow of parents without long waiting times.

“We ensured that the student lists were divided among several teachers so that each person managed a smaller number of parents. As a result, there are no long lines and parents are moving through the process quickly and efficiently,” she added.

The distribution has been progressing well countrywide, with government ministers deployed in various regions to oversee the exercise.

The education minister said no major issues or complaints had been reported.
