A project management team has been deployed to the Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE) to specifically assist the College with its expansion of teacher training services to Guyanese. That team met today at the CPCE with the Honourable Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand to discuss the way forward.
Since August 2020, Minister Manickchand has been vocal about the need to expand teacher training so that Guyana can reach the stage where 100% of our teachers are trained under the CPCE. This has resulted in the College offering its services online.
This move has seen an increase in the enrolment at the college now more than five times the usual intake since there is no longer a physical limit on how many students can enrol per year. Minister Manickchand believes that any improvement in the education system has to start at the CPCE to produce well qualified and trained teachers who will enter the school system and be able to deliver content to learners.
