STEM Guyana Team recognised for their outstanding performance at First Global Challenge
The members of the STEM Guyana team that represented the country at the recently concluded First Global Challenge held in Dubai were further recognized today at a ceremony held at the Baridi Benab, State House.

The members of the STEM Guyana team that represented the country at the recently concluded First Global Challenge held in Dubai were further recognized today at a ceremony held at the Baridi Benab, State House.
The competition which began on October 25 and ended on the 27th featured teams from 195 countries. This year’s challenge centred around Ocean Opportunities with a specific focus on clearing the world’s oceans of pollutants.
At the conclusion of the event, Team Guyana was placed 39th and was also awarded the Albert Einstein Gold Medal for Excellence in the Competition.
Her Excellency, First Lady Sandra Granger said that the team’s performance is evidence of the resilience, flexibility and stamina of our young people.
She said that robotics was first introduced officially in Guyana in 2016 and based on the enthusiasm of students, this lead to the opening of STEM clubs across Guyana.
The First Lady thanked all the organisations and individuals that contributed to the team’s participation in the competition and for making STEM an important element in the development of Guyana.
Minister of Education, Dr. the Hon. Nicolette Henry congratulated the team and said that the Ministry of Education was pleased to be associated with STEM Guyana and looks forward to closer partnerships in the future.
Founder of STEM Guyana, Ms. Karen Abrams said that the competition was significant because it was where Guyanese talent met opportunity. She said that the children of Guyana overcame many roadblocks to be resilient.
She said that it was due to the teamwork and team spirit that Team Guyana was awarded the prestigious prize which is the highest award to be given to an individual team.
Ms. Abrams thanked entities such as Tullow Oil and GTT among others for their support towards the team. She also thanked the Ministries of Communities, the Presidency, Education and Public Telecommunications for offering much-needed support as well.
Also present to congratulate the team were Minister of State, Hon. Dawn Hastings-Williams and Minister of Public Telecommunications, Hon. Catherine Hughes.
The team members were each presented with a package consisting tokens of appreciation and recognition of their performance at the competition.
The members of the team were Arrianna Mahase, Sahief Singh, Kyle Dos Santos, Shamar Stewart, Joshua Reece, Maryam Bacchus and Daniel Eastman.
