Students explore skills, innovation at TVET Fair and Expo 2026

Students are getting hands-on exposure to technical skills, emerging technologies and career opportunities as the Ministry of Education’s TVET Fair and Expo 2026 opened at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre (ACCC) on Tuesday.

The three-day exposition, being held under the theme “From Classroom to Career: TVET in Action,” showcases Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes, student projects and practical demonstrations across several fields.

Declaring the exposition open, Minister of Education Sonia Parag said technical education must be recognised as an important pathway for students and national development.

“Technical education is not a lesser form of education. It is rigorous. It is valuable, and essential. The child who excels with tools, machinery, design, food, fabric, technology or construction is no less gifted than the child who excels in a traditional academic subject,” she emphasised.

She said the education system has a responsibility to recognise different talents and provide pathways through which every learner can develop their abilities and succeed.

Minister Parag also encouraged students whose projects are being showcased to view their creations as more than classroom assignments, but as potential starting points for future careers and businesses.

She said, “The product before you may be the first version of something that later carries your name, supports your family, employs other Guyanese and reaches markets beyond our shores.”

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Education Officer (Technical) Dr Ritesh Tularam said skilled workers have an important role in Guyana’s development.

“Every skilled person has a role to play in national development, and so this TVET fair and exposition allow us to celebrate those individuals, to celebrate every skill, to recognise and appreciate every individual and their value in TVET education,” Dr Tularam said.

He encouraged visitors to look beyond the products and demonstrations and recognise the students, teachers and instructors behind them.

The expo allows students to explore possible career pathways while demonstrating how technical and vocational education can translate classroom learning into practical skills, employment and entrepreneurship.
