Today, Fifty-seven (57) students whose parents are members of the Guyana Public Service Co-operative Credit Union Co-operative were encouraged to become the best they can be as they move to a next chapter in life.

The Co-operative held its Annual Bursary Award Ceremony today where the children were rewarded and recognized for their performance at the 2020 National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA).

Delivering remarks on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Education Priya Manickchand was the Advisor to the Minister Ms. Africo Selman.

She congratulated the students for performing well at the NGSA despite the COVID-19 pandemic which had affected their preparations.

She said that despite the challenges the students were able to adapt to new ways of learning and are now reaping the benefits of their hard-work and performance.

Ms. Selman encouraged them to continue to focus on excellence. She said that Secondary School is a very exciting phase of the educational journey and that the Government of Guyana (GoG) is particularly interested in providing the necessary tools for them to succeed in their educational pursuits.

"I urge you to grasp all the opportunities that avail themselves to you. Follow your school rules and set goals that will encourage you to strive to be the best you can be," Ms. Selman remarked.

She urged the parents present to continue inspiring their children to reach for the stars, for the sky is the limit. "Instill in them the necessary values that would lead them down the road to success," Ms. Selman said.

The Guyana Public Service Co-operative Credit Union was congratulated by Ms. Selman for providing such assistance to the children.

She said the gesture speaks volumes of the Union's commitment to the development of education in Guyana.

Moreover, she said that the importance of the Co-operative movement is well entrenched in the Guyanese society and every organization that seeks to continue this traditional way of life in Guyana is enhancing and enriching our culture and helping to develop our country.

Meanwhile, delivering the feature address was the Honourable Minister of Labour Joseph Hamilton. He told the gathering that his Ministry is preparing for the young people of this nation.

He said that his Ministry will be actively involved in human development, capacity building and the protection of the rights of workers.

He told the parents and the children that education is the ultimate key to economic development and sustainability. The Labour Minister encouraged parents to give their children the motivation they need through unwavering support and guidance.

He thanked the Co-operative for offering the assistance to the children and asked that they continue to do so especially to those children of members that are in vulnerable communities so that those children can pursue their educational goals.
