Surge in Applicants Following Free University of Guyana Education
With the University of Guyana now being free, there has been a surplus of applicants that cannot be accommodated at the two existing campuses at Turkeyen and at Tain, Berbice.

With the University of Guyana now being free, there has been a surplus of applicants that cannot be accommodated at the two existing campuses at Turkeyen and at Tain, Berbice.
To address this, President Irfaan Ali took the decision to expand UG’s services in regions with the most applications, so as to not disenfranchise dozens who are eager to pursue a higher education.
To facilitate Guyana’s booming infrastructure sector, and to fill the existing gap of engineers on the labour market, UG’s expansion began with civil and mechanical engineering that are now being accommodated at the Essequibo Technical Institute and the John’s Science Centre, respectively.
The Government of Guyana continues to decentralise essential services to ensure that geography no longer determines a citizen's quality of life or their education.
