Following an announcement from His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Irfaan noting that the newly commissioned Tuschen Secondadary School will serve as an branch for the University of Guyana’s College of Medical Sciences, Education Minister, the Honourable Priya Manickchand, just hours after the announcement, met and consulted with Vice Chancellor of the University of Guyana, Professor Dr Paloma Mohamed-Martin and other officials of UG, officials from the Ministry of Health, Administration of the De Kinderen Hospital, and Officials from Region Three to discuss furthering the advancement of medical education in Region Three as is desired by His Excellency.

Currently, the school of Medical Sciences offers 17 programs and this year, more than 144 applicants from Region 3, while eligible, were unable to gain entry into the School of Medical Sciences because of space constraints. The parties agreed to examine the mechanics of implementing this intention with the De Kinderen Hosptial serving as a teaching hospital and to meet again shortly on the way forward.
