Teachers laud new Yarrowkabra Primary School block as major boost to learning

Teachers and students of Yarrowkabra Primary School are benefiting from an improved learning environment following the commissioning of a new school block by Minister of Education, Sonia Parag, on Tuesday.

Teachers welcomed the expansion, noting that the additional space will help ease overcrowding and create a more conducive environment for teaching and learning.

Grade Six Teacher Alessia Watson said the new facility will allow educators to introduce more interactive learning activities that were previously difficult to facilitate because of limited space.

Similarly, Grade Three teacher Lauren Cameron said the new block will improve students’ classroom experience by reducing congestion and creating a more comfortable learning environment.

The new wing will accommodate approximately 200 students from Grades Four to Six. It features a Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) room to provide targeted support for pupils with unique learning needs.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Minister Parag said the extension represents an investment in the future of the community’s children and will provide them with greater access to quality education.

“Creating an environment that is conducive to nurturing our children so that they can become the successful future of our country, we have to put these things in place,” the minister stated.

She explained that overcrowding can negatively affect both students and teachers, making the expansion a necessary step in improving educational outcomes.

The education minister also highlighted the government’s continued investment in the sector, noting that revenues from Guyana’s growing economy are being directed towards expanding educational infrastructure and increasing access to quality learning opportunities across the country.

Minister Parag pointed out that Guyana is on track to achieve universal secondary education through the construction of new schools and the expansion of existing facilities, particularly in rapidly growing communities.

The new block at Yarrowkabra Primary School is expected to significantly improve learning conditions for students while supporting the school’s growing population.
