The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) on Friday met with the Ministry of Education (MOE) to initiate discussions on the establishment of Harmony clubs in schools. Both the ERC and the MOE recognize that children are the forebearers of the positive changes needed to foster a culture of ethnic harmony in our culturally diverse society.
In this regard, the harmony clubs intend to provide a platform for students to engage in activities and projects that promote mutual respect, tolerance, intercultural understanding, and appreciation of Guyana’s rich cultural diversity.
The Ethnic Relations Commission was represented by the Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Gomin Comancho, Head of the Public Education and Awareness Unit, Mr. Dwijendra Rooplall, Senior Programme Officer, Ms. Seetan Small and Commissioner Mr. Neaz Subhan. Representing the Ministry of Education were Deputy Chief Education Officer for Amerindian and Hinterland Development Mr. Marti De Souza and Deputy Chief Education Officer – Development, Ms. Volika Jaikishun.
