The Schools’ Welfare Unit of the Department of Education – Region One launched a campaign on Tuesday against teenage pregnancy in the Region to sensitize parents and students on the effects and impact of teenage pregnancy.

In support of this initiative, a series of community meetings are scheduled while schools have been tasked to conduct one activity in support of the initiative.

Addressing participants during the launch was Regional Chairman, Mr. Brentnol Ashley, Chief Schools’ Welfare Officer, Ms. Gillian Vyphuis, Schools’ Welfare Officer, Ms. Leah Robinson and Medex Sarswattie Lalchand attached to the Mabaruma Regional Hospital. Also present were students of the North West Secondary School and the Hosororo and Wauna Primary Tops.
