Free WiFi for every household in Thomas Hill!
Every single household in Thomas Hill, Mabaruma Sub-District, Region One, has been outfitted with free WiFi, using funds they received from Guyana’s landmark and globally historic carbon credit sales.
Signed in December 2022 under the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS 2030), the agreement entails Guyana receiving payments for maintaining its pristine forests as part of the global fight against climate change.
These revenues go directly towards Amerindian and hinterland villages, with the communities having a direct say in how their monies are spent.
The remainder of the funds is channelled towards national climate adaptation, flood defence, and renewable energy projects.
