The Vryman’s Erven Secondary School in New Amsterdam held its graduation ceremony yesterday in the school’s auditorium and the graduates were encouraged to be goal-oriented as they move into another phase of life and development.
This advice was given by the Minister of Education, Dr. the Hon. Nicolette Henry who told the graduates that persons with goals are more likely to succeed since they know what they want to achieve.
Further, Minister Henry told the graduates that their actions will also determine their progress. She said that the Ministry of Education believes in each of them to make meaningful contributions to the country.
Dr. Henry urged the graduates that they must never stop fighting for greater achievements and a better Guyana.
Moreover, Minister Henry told the graduates to develop a winning mindset. She said that during life they may not always achieve every goal. However, she said that a winning mindset will allow them to learn from their weaknesses and transform them into strengths.
She said, “Remember excellence is not the best but it is rather doing the best you can.” The Education Minister noted that the habit of persistence is the only pathway to victory. “So the size of your success is solely dependent on the depth of your desire. So I urge you the past is over forget it, the future holds hope, reach for it. If you remember nothing I told you today remember that great work is performed not by strength but by perseverance.”
Head Teacher of the school, Mr. Graham Thomas while giving the Head Teacher’s Report said that the school needs to move forward. He said that the entire school community particularly parents are needed to make progress. Further, he said that the class of 2019 is expected to assist with removing the stigma that is attached to the school.
Meanwhile, Director of Regional Health Services, Mr. Jevaughn Stephen gave the charge to the students and told them that they need to strive to make their impact on society and influence others. He urged the graduates to use the knowledge and skills gained to benefit community and country.
