WATCH | Sod Turned for $2.6B School

The Ministry of Education hosted a grand sod-turning ceremony to officially mark the commencement of construction for the new Christianburg Wismar Secondary School a transformative $2.6 billion project poised to be the most technologically and vocationally advanced secondary school across all ten regions of Guyana.
The event was spearheaded by the Honourable Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, with the feature address delivered by the Honourable Prime Minister, Mark Phillips, who emphasized the government’s continued investment in modernizing education and empowering Guyana’s youth.
Once completed, the state of the art school will boast a wide array of specialized facilities, including:
- Administrative Block: Principal’s office, staff room, conference room, and sick bay
- Multipurpose Hall
- 35 Modern Classrooms
- Science Block with 3 fully equipped laboratories
- Technology Vocational Block for metalwork and woodwork
- Home Economics Block covering food & nutrition, clothing & textile, and home management
- Performing Arts Block with a music room and dance studio
- Agricultural Block
- Information Technology Laboratory
- Language Laboratory
- Library
- Modern Sanitary Facilities for both students and staff
- Recreational Area
This groundbreaking project signifies a bold step toward educational transformation in Region 10 and across the country, ensuring students have access to cutting-edge resources that promote holistic development and 21st century skills.
